Supermarine Spitfire PRXIX PS853 walk around

PS853 was one of 70 Spitfire PR XIX's built by Vickers-Supermarine at Southampton. and would see active wartime service with 16 Squadron & 286 Squadron. One of the founder members of the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight PS853 would later be grounded and placed on gate guard duties before being made airworthy once more to be used in dissimilar air combat trials against the English Electric Lightning . Returning once more to the BBMF the aircraft would finally be sold to finance the rebuild of one of the Flights Hawker Hurricane's. Purchased by Rolls Royce the airframe remains airworthy in the hands of famous engine manufacturer.
